“A simple act of kindness spread through out the land
and you can spread that kind of kindness,
just lend a helping
hand…”

What is this?
Dr. Hope and Alpine Publishing (a tiny little publishing company) designed this
contest to give kids and adults the joy and gratification that comes from
helping those in need. This is a contest to inspire elementary school
children and their parents to help those in need and thereby make the world
a better place.
Why?
Now
more then ever we need to help each
other. It seems that schools are always the first to suffer from budget
cuts. Alpine Publishing Inc. is trying to be creative and think outside the
box by helping teachers not spend so much of their hard earned money to buy
books. (Teachers, we LOVE you! For FREE downloadable books, a
FREE class curriculum and 50% savings on all children's books, please
go to
www.laughingday.com and click on “Teachers Corner”)
Recently there was an
item on the World News which told that schools across our country are
suffering and in need of supplies, everything from hand soap to pencils to
books. Here at Alpine Publishing Inc., we want to help. We have a
warehouse full of colorful, award winning, some bilingual (English and
Spanish) children’s books, just waiting to be read.
We understand that
times are tough for schools and teachers. Therefore we are thinking of
loving, helpful, creative ways to get our books into the hands of children
while giving them positive life experiences that will stay with them for a
lifetime. Hence the contest.
Who’s eligible?
Any school, church or organization that has preschool thru elementary school
children (ages 3 to 10) that want free books and are willing to go out and
help others in their community may participate.
How does the
contest work? We are asking that
teachers and their students think up inventive ways to help those in need.
They can find a cause, organization, family or movement that needs help and
figure out a way to help them. It could be as simple as helping someone
find a job OR invent some unique way to help your community save an under
funded library.
Then tell us what
you’ve done (in writing and pictures) along with contact information for the
person(s), organization, etc., that you helped. A team of judges from Alpine
Publishing Inc. will then pick the winner, one class each month. (It is
possible that the judges may not find a suitable recipient in a given month.
In that case no award will be given for that month.) The winner
will be chosen at the end of the month and they will be notified within the
first two weeks of the following month. Each participating student in the
class (max 36) will be sent an autographed copy of Dr. Hope’s
Laughing Day/El Dia
Para Reir to thank them for their act of kindness.
How many times can
you enter? As many times per
achievements or projects as you want. Only one class per month will be
picked. (for instance, if you go out every single month and raise money and
/or supplies for homeless shelters, and/or food banks, or blood drives, you
can enter each month that you do that). Also, we may pick your class months
after you’ve entered the contest. If your class wins more than once you can
pick your storybook from any of titles at
www.laughingday.com
How do we get
started?
1)
Read the rules and regulations, share this with your class, get
everybody on board and open your minds, eyes and hearts.
2)
Register with us that you are interested in partaking in the contest.
3)
Go do it!
How and when will
the winners get picked? Once a month,
(It is possible that the judges may not find a suitable recipient in a given
month. In that case no award will be given for that month.) judges at Alpine Publishing Inc. will pick a winner. We will then contact
you and tell you that you’ve won. Once you’ve stopped jumping up and down
and screaming, tell us where you want your books shipped.
The winner will be chosen at the end of the month and they will be notified
within the first two weeks of the following month. Each participating
student in the class (max. 36) will be sent an autographed copy of Dr. Hope’s
Laughing Day/El Dia Para Reir to thank them for their act of kindness.
If your class wins more than once you can pick your subsequent storybook
from any of titles at
www.laughingday.com
What happens if
you don’t win? If your class is
not chosen the month that you submit your entry, you may still be chosen
later in the year. There are no losers here even if you are not chosen to
receive a book, you will still be left with the warm glow from having done a
wonderful act of kindness. You’ve done a service for your community, you’ve
accomplished something for whomever you helped and they will always remember
and appreciate you. You’ll learn first hand how Dr. Hope's message to
“spread kindness and be helpful” brings joy into your life and why this
is so important, especially with the challenges of today. (Quote from the
Laughing Day storybook.) By this simple act of
kindness good things will come to you.
Actually, good things have already come to
you because you were in a position to do something helpful and nice for
someone else!
Contestants and their good deeds will be
posted on our website along with their pictures and how they helped the
world become a better place. We in turn will be sharing the good news
with other related sites and media with the hopes that others spread help,
joy and happiness.
What are the
Judges looking for? Several things:
1) The most creative way of helping.
2) The most amount of people that were
helped.
3) The most amount of participants that were
involved.
4) How much fun it was to do this.
